It’s been a hectic summer here in Europe. Among the reopening of society and great sport following the Olympics and the Euros, here at Starburst we’ve also enjoyed a fantastic number of events, and the fun isn’t stopping any time soon as we prepare for an even busier autumn season.

Most notable this summer at Starburst was our fantastic evening of wine tasting with leading data experts, in partnership with Chief Wine Officer. It was a memorable evening of chatting and sipping, whilst getting to hear some brilliant back and forth about the topic of the hour: Data Mesh.

The Promise of Data Mesh

For UK-based data leaders, the Chief Wine Officer event was a great opportunity to spark new connections and delve into questions of how to overcome all-new challenges and dimensions in the modern data landscape. Hosted by our very own Andrew Mott, Solution Architect at Starburst, Rob Anderson, Director of Field Engineering at Starburst, and myself, this was a virtual event where guests joined to hear about how data organisations are transforming data management strategies, how the Data Mesh is used in practice today, and, of course, network with senior peers, over a glass of wine delivered straight to attendees’ doors.

Many of our guests were intrigued about how they could serve their organisation’s analytical requirements now, as well as in the future, and we talked about the promise of Data Mesh in optimising speed and scale through understanding domain-driven data ownership, data as a product, self-serve infrastructure as a platform, and federated computation governance. It was an engaging and interactive roundtable, which was definitely enhanced with the selection of fine wine samples picked by world-renowned wine expert, Jane Parkinson. At the end of our night, we also got to test our wine skills and our Chief Wine Officer was crownedThanks to all who joined in and participated in our brilliant roundtable event and don’t worry if you missed out this time round as we have another evening scheduled on the 8th September, where we’ll be taking another deep dive into the Data Mesh, RSVP here – and we look forward to seeing some familiar, and some new faces at the next roundtable!
